People experiencing homelessness are not just in cities. They are not just older people. They are not just one demographic. And they are almost everywhere: Philadelphia, Santa Barbara, Kansas City, Miami, and Washington D.C.
They are even in places you may not think of – like the immigrant “shelters” that are being built along the US-Mexican border in Texas.
It’s not to hard to imagine what life must be like for those who survived the trek from their country to only wind up in one of those government built immigrant facilities.
Well, in Laredo, TX, on the private side, La Frontera, a former shelter for domestic violence has been undergoing renovations and turned into a facility that can temporarily house 150 migrants. Those individuals, young and old are homeless. And in a strange new country.
So although the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and The Joy of Sox® cannot solve the immigration crisis they can help make the lives of some of these people a little bit come comfortable. Together they are sending hundreds of pairs of new socks to the new arrivals to our country.
These warm new socks should help put a little smile on their faces and make their feet feel a whole lot better.
